1948-07-22 Deep into Darkness

Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. plays a wrongly-convicted man served time in prison for killing a man… and when he’s released, he learns that man is very much alive. He can exact his deadly revenge on the man and those who framed him, without penalty, he believes, because “double jeopardy” laws give him a free pass to do so. It’s a good story, and Fairbanks delivers a fine performance.

“Double jeopardy” is a little more complex in its application than explained here, but don’t let legal technicalities get in the way of enjoying the performance.

Script author Edward James was a long-time radio veteran. He was often writing for variety series in the 1930s and through the 1950s, including Good News, Phil Harris and Alice Faye, Lux, and many others. He was the creator of Father Knows Best.

This was the only appearance of Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. on Suspense. He was on many variety programs, as himself, and on movie-related series. His film career went from the silent movies in the 1920s through the late 1980s. His long and varied career has an overview at Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_Fairbanks_Jr.
