Jimmy Stewart, a Suspense favorite, returns in a new production of a fine script from 1946. It was prepared by three writers who would all end up in the Red Channels and Hollywood Blacklist undertow. Links to the background of the story and the original 1946 broadcast are at

Stewart was originally announced for a story called “Revenge.” That script was held and produced as the final Anton M. Leader production of the series on 1949-06-30. It was renamed The Day I Died and starred Joseph Cotten in an excellent performance. It is not known why the switch was made. Stewart could have been too busy in early May for rehearsals required for a new script. This made a repeated script which he and others had familiarity a wise choice to stay on schedule. Perhaps Cotten was deemed a better fit for the new script and held to his scheduled date.
