1957-12-08 Speed Trap

Everett Sloane and William Conrad star in the second broadcast of this Hank Searls script. They play rural police officers patrolling a dangerous mountain road. A speeding car on the dangerous and wet mountain road is showing signs of being out of control. It’s an interesting story as they realize that a family member might be driving the vehicle. There are surprises along the way as they do their best to avoid dangers to themselves and others, and any possible loss of life in an accident. A surprise awaits the officers when the chase is over.

The original broadcast starred Eddie Firestone and Larry Dobkin. Details about that broadcast are at

The program was recorded on Wednesday, November 27, 1957. Rehearsal began at 2:00pm and concluded at 5:00pm. Recording started at that time and ended, with edits at 7:00pm Final editing was completed on December 2.

There are two surviving recordings of this episode, both from the Armed Forces Radio Service, AFRS#660 and AFRS#962. No network recording is known to survive. The two AFRS recordings can be identified by the announcements after Robson’s opening monologue:

  • AFRS#660: Official US seal is managed by the Secretary of State and is also responsible for the negotiation of treaties

  • AFRS#962: Medal of Honor (read by Vin Scully, voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers).

The better recording is AFRS#962.

Program advertisers for the national broadcast included Kent cigarettes and Ex-Lax.
