Charles Laughton plays a middle-aged sandwich clerk who tries to get a quick fortune by “borrowing” money from the cash register to bet on a long-shot horse race. Of course, the horse loses. His strange conception of the definition and boundaries of honesty, developed in a curious childhood, adds a psychological twist to the story.
The story is written by Robert L. Richards. It is not a remarkable story in any aspect, but it is entertaining. Laughton is always good as a befuddled man caught in a nebulous situation where taking the right course of action seems too difficult to do.
The preferred recording is the network broadcast. An aircheck recording of low audio quality is also available.
