Ann Sothern stars as a young wife who believes that she has successfully avoided her husband from learning about her affair. That is, until she meets a big-talking detective in a bar. His sense of confidentiality decreases and his desire to impress increases the more he drinks. She realizes he’s describing the details of her deception! Was he was hired by her husband? Is he looking for a blackmail payday? William Conrad plays the detective.
Toby Hall wrote the script and may be a “one hit wonder” for radio scripting. There is no other script by Hall that can be found or any other sources in print or other media for this name as a writer or other broadcast or literary position.
While not the best of Suspense, this is a very entertaining episode with a good script. Conrad is superb as the detective.
The working title of this episode was “Bang, Bang, That’s All!”
Two recordings have survived. The network recording is the better of the two. The other is an Armed Forces Radio Service recording (#256).
This was Ann Sothern’s sole appearance on Suspense. This role was casting against type, because she had her greatest success at the time of the broadcast as comedienne star of the Maisie movies and radio program. Sothern was multitalented and also had great success in television. An overview of her life and career can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ann_Sothern
